Kate is based in the Santiago, Chile office, and is providing strategic communications and fundraising support for NESsT's Levantando Chile Fund.

 

Kate is a strategic communications consultant and project manager who combines experience as a political advisor, teacher and therapist with strong writing and communications skills to develop strategies and messages for change. Since founding Kate Raphael Consulting in spring 2009, Kate has completed communications strategies and research projects for public, nonprofit and for-profit clients including Nike, the Board of Commissioners of Clackamas County (Oregon), and the Portland (Oregon) Parks Foundation.

As a former project manager for the U.S.-based communications firm, Pyramid Communications, prior to forming her own consulting practice, Kate developed communications and development strategies and managed media outreach for nonprofits and government clients working in public education and low-income housing.

Prior to working in strategic communications, Kate worked for seven years as a child and family therapist, providing support for children and families affected by homelessness, addiction and mental illness. Kate has also worked as a high school teacher in Kenya and Guatemala.

Kate has over 20 years of experience in writing, research, and strategy development. She holds a master’s degree in social work from Portland State University, and a bachelor’s degree in English and history from the University of Virginia. She currently resides in Santiago, Chile.
