Luis Danton Martinez is Director of Corporate Affairs for Walmart de Mexico & Central America.
After several years in private practice, he joined Citigroup in 1998 as legal counsel for Citibank Mexico, becoming
subsequently General Counsel for the Corporate and Investment Bank. He participated in the acquisition of
Banamex by Citigroup in 2001 and became Corporate and Regulatory General Counsel for Banamex, where he was
responsible for corporate governance and regulatory relationships. He has also participated actively in industry
organizations, such as the Mexican Bank Association.
He joined Walmart in 2008 and has been General Counsel for Litigation, Institutional Affairs, Head of Compliance,
Ethics and Corporate Quality. He is now Director of Corporate Affairs responsible for leading strengthening links with
States and at the local level to support the profitable growth strategy of the company.
Luis Danton has also been a professor of commercial and banking law in Mexico’s National University’s Law School
and has published several articles on the reform of the Mexican financial system and on the creation of a mortgage-
backed securities market in Mexico.
He has an MBA and LLM from the University of California at Los Angeles, a Law degree from the Law School in the
National University of Mexico and is admitted to the practice of law by the Supreme Court of the State of New York.
