Maurício Marçal

Maurício Marçal has assisted Global Environment Fund in Brazil in deploying capital and managing portfolio companies since March 2007. Among other roles, Mr. Marçal is currently a representative of GEF's most recent emerging markets fund on the Board of NEOgás do Brasil. 

Mr. Marçal started his career in private equity in Portland, Oregon in the late 1990s, advising companies in the Pacific Northwest on private placements of equity and M&A transactions.  During his years in Portland, Mr. Marçal participated in over US$ 250 million in transactions, including the sale of Oregon's largest privately-held waste hauling company and landfill to Allied Waste, Inc. 

Upon returning to Brazil in 2002, Mr. Marçal was part of a team investing in early stage ventures in the Northeast of Brazil, where he led investments in the sectors of energy efficiency, natural gas equipment and agribusiness.

Mr. Marçal, a native Brazilian, holds an MBA and an MS in Political Science, both from the University of Oregon, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.  Additionally, he was a visiting research fellow in the Finance and Economics Department at Meiji University, Tokyo, during the academic year 2005.  Mr. Marçal currently resides in São Paulo, Brazil.
